For over 3 decades, Barbara Lawrence has owned and operated Boston Gems & Findings, Inc. By offering gemstones, diamonds, and findings under one roof to the trade, customers are always assured a perfect fit. So whether you need matched suites of colored stones for channel settings or shallow stones for mothers' rings; thinner girdles for antique replacements or proper sizes for pave work; the experienced staff of Boston Gems & Findings can help you.
It is with this attention to detail and quality that Boston Gems & Findings is uniquely able to service jewelers, designers and antique dealers. Designers come to us looking for gems with an unusual cut, color or shape, and for help creating modern, one-of-a-kind pieces. Our expert knowledge about treatments, durability, and quality makes us a valuable resource. Antique dealers, on the other hand, turn to us for help fitting older cut stones to the period and style of the piece they are repairing.
Our staff has years of combined expertise as jewelers and/or gem sorters. Paul Dragone, has a GG degree from GIA. Paul has worked with another staff member, Patty Wu, for years as a hands-on team- he as the former diamond buyer for one of the largest jewelry manufacturing companies in the world, and she as his top diamond sorter.
Naturally, we're proud of our staff's expertise and the personal, attentive service they give our customers. But we also know that knowledge alone is not enough. Our merchandise needs to be first-rate, too. That's why Barbara regularly travels overseas to Jaipur and Sri Lanka to Bangkok and Hong Kong, she scouts everything from Alexandrite to Zircon, always keeping an eye out for new discoveries. Paul and Barbara closely monitor new discoveries, as well as the economic and political climate throughout the world.
Our Bella Luna Tanzainian moonstone inventory has benefited jewelry designers and antique dealers alike. Because we purchased large quantities of rough material when the mines were first discovered, we're able to manufacture moonstone briolettes, larger rose-cut moonstone and calibrated-faceted moonstone-we even re-cut fine material to supply matched sets. Boston Gems is very proud to support the Tanzanian Women's Mining Group in our moonstone business ventures.
We view our relationship with you as a partnership, one in which our knowledge can help you to better serve your customers. As members of the AGTA, and the JVC, we're committed to keeping ourselves and our customers well informed about new gemstone treatments and new synthetics in the marketplace. To this end, our staff at Boston Gems and Findings is available to volunteer our services to educate or refresh your sales staff on proper terminology, treatment, and care of gemstones. Currently Barbara shares her gemstone knowledge as an advisor to the jewelry program at the North Bennett Street School, where students learn to be professional bench jewelers.
We'd be happy to show you what we can do for you. Just call or stop by our Boston showroom, located in the Jewelers' Building at 333 Washington Street, Suite 543. Or catch up with us at the February AGTA gem show in Tucson, or the June JCK gem show in Las Vegas.
